One of New York’s most beloved chefs and restaurateurs is expanding to the West Coast.
Daniel Boulud announced his first ever West Coast restaurant, Café Boulud Beverly Hills, will open its doors later this year at the Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills. Named after the original Café Boulud on the Michelin-starred chef’s family’s farm outside of Lyon, the Upper East Side’s Café Boulud shut down in 2021, but is expected to reopen in New York later in 2023 as well.

“I have been visiting Los Angeles for more than 30 years and have many fond memories from filming a tv series, ‘After Hour,’ with chefs and restaurants across the city many years ago. I always teased Wolfgang that if he opened a restaurant in New York, I would open a restaurant in LA. After the opening of Cut, this is a promise delivered,” said Chef Daniel Boulud. “Café Boulud Beverly Hills will be able to take advantage of the fresh, vibrant market, which I am looking forward to sourcing local produce from and is the foundation for the City’s thriving culinary scene.”
Chef Boulud sticks to culinary traditions dating back to Boulud’s great-grandparents, and connects to his heritage cuisine four staple inspirations: La Tradition – the classic dishes of French cooking; La Saison – the seasonal specialties of the market; Le Potager – the vegetable garden; and Le Voyage – the exotic flavors of the world’s great cuisines. And though the tradition is strictly French, these staples translate well to New York, plus Café Boulud locations in Toronto, the Bahamas, Blantyre, and now Los Angeles. The restaurant in Beverly Hills will be designed by artistic director Marc Ange.

“California’s culinary scene has exploded in the last several years. Having lived in LA for many years, I am very happy to have the opportunity to open one of our fine casual restaurants,” said Sebastien Silvestri, CEO of Dinex, Boulud’s restaurant group. “9200 Wilshire is a one-of-a-kind opportunity with world-class partners.”
The Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills, at 9200 Wilshire Boulevard, is the first new condominium in Beverly Hills in a decade. Chef Boulud will also operate a private dining service, Boulud Prive, exclusive to the residences and the rooftop pool terrace at the Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills and its sister property, the Mandarin Oriental Residences Fifth Avenue.

“Daniel and I have been close friends for 20 years, during which time I’ve been a regular guest at his various restaurants and had the pleasure of enjoying his impeccable cuisine,” said Michael Shvo, CEO of SHVO, the real estate development group developing Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills. “He’s one of the most talented chefs in the world and we are delighted to be bringing his unique culinary experiences to the residents at our property, as well as the Beverly Hills community, for the first time.”
